Each model is available in a variety of colors. The Galaxy Ring comes in black, silver, and gold, while the Oura Ring comes in black, silver, brushed silver, gold, stealth, and rose gold. It’s important to note that the Oura Ring is currently in its fourth generation, making it a more refined device, whereas the Samsung ring is a first-generation release.

There are also differences in the available sizes. The Galaxy Ring offers 11 different sizes, ranging from 5 to 15, while the Oura Ring offers 12 sizes, ranging from 4 to 15. Despite these variations, both rings feature a similar design: a wide titanium band with all the sensors housed inside.

Phone Compatibility

Both devices have pros and cons regarding phone compatibility. First, the Galaxy Ring app is only available on Android, which makes sense since it’s designed for Samsung’s operating system. On the other hand, the Oura app is compatible with both Android and iOS. This means that if you have an iPhone, your only option between the two rings is the Oura. This flexibility is beneficial if you currently have an Android but are considering switching to a different phone in the near future.

However, there’s a downside: The Oura app requires a subscription. You can’t use it for free. In addition to the purchase price, you’ll need to pay $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. In contrast, while Samsung’s ring may be slightly more expensive, you won’t need to pay to use the app.

Charging and Battery

Both rings have similar battery life, with a difference of just one day. The new version of Oura offers an 8-day battery life, while the Galaxy Ring lasts for 7 days. However, this may vary depending on the size of the ring. While both batteries are comparable, that extra day can make a difference in certain situations.

The difference in charging time is minimal. The Galaxy Ring takes an hour and a half to charge fully, while the Oura Ring takes an hour and 30 minutes. So, practically speaking, they’re almost equivalent.

One additional feature that stands out for the Galaxy Ring is its portable charging case. This case allows for a 30-minute charge and provides 40% battery life, making it convenient for emergencies and long trips.

Oura 4

Both the Oura 4 and Galaxy Ring are equipped with sensors that provide data on steps, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and sleep. Essentially, both rings offer similar functionality in these areas. While the apps for each ring have different interfaces and some detailed features may vary, the core data collected is comparable.

The Galaxy Ring has a unique feature for Samsung phone users that allows them to turn off alarms or control the camera with a double-tap gesture on the ring. These functionalities resemble those of a smartwatch but, unfortunately, aren’t available for other Android devices.

Additionally, both Oura and Samsung include a feature to help you locate your ring if you misplace it. However, it’s worth noting that Oura’s Find My Ring feature is only available for iOS users.

Which Ring Should You Buy?

If you’re an Android user, the more affordable option is the Samsung Galaxy Ring. Although it has a slightly higher initial price, it doesn’t require a monthly subscription, making it more cost-effective in the long run. In contrast, if you have an iPhone, your only choice between the two is the Oura Ring 4, which does come with a subscription fee.

In terms of design, the Galaxy Ring is slightly thinner and lighter than the Oura Ring and includes a portable charger for convenience. However, the Oura Ring boasts a longer battery life (one day longer), and both designs are quite similar overall.
