In this post, we’ll explain how to change the battery of your AirTag, an Apple device designed to help you keep track of items you don’t want to lose. According to the company, the AirTag battery lasts about a year and isn’t rechargeable. If you’ve been using your AirTag for a long time and it’s starting to weaken, you may need to replace it.

Fortunately, the AirTag uses a simple CR2032 coin battery, which is inexpensive to replace. Additionally, changing the battery is extremely easy and requires no tools.

Changing the Battery of Your AirTag

To replace your AirTag battery, start by removing the stainless steel cover. You’ll need to use both thumbs to rotate the cover counterclockwise.

As you do this, the cover will pop up automatically. Simply remove it to reveal the inside of the device. To remove the battery, rotate it downward.

Next, replace the old battery with a new one. Make sure to use a CR2032 coin battery. These batteries are inexpensive and easy to find. For instance, you can purchase two Duracell batteries on Amazon for less than $4. Other brands and models are available at even lower prices, and you may find them at your local supermarket.

Once you’ve inserted the new battery with the positive side facing up, simply replace the cover. The pressure from the cover will reactivate your AirTag. To attach the metal cover, make sure that the three tabs align with the three slots on the AirTag. Then, rotate the cover clockwise to secure it.
