Even though Samsung updated its flagship lineup earlier this year at Galaxy Unpacked 2025, the South Korean company seized the opportunity to launch new devices during MWC 2025. Specifically, Samsung updated its mid-range offerings at the event. The new Galaxy A lineup now features the most powerful model to date: the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G was undoubtedly one of the standout devices in Samsung’s catalog last year. The Galaxy A56 5G continues this legacy and refreshes the South Korean mid-range segment. Notably, the artificial intelligence capabilities previously seen in Samsung’s high-end models are now making their way into more affordable devices–at least to some extent.

A Familiar Design

Samsung Galaxy A56 5G

Samsung hasn’t completely overhauled the Galaxy A56. Instead, it’s updated an already successful design. The new device is slightly larger than its predecessor but much thinner (almost 1 mm). It’s also significantly lighter, weighing 198 grams compared to the Galaxy A55’s 213 grams. The back design maintains a simple yet elegant finish, with a camera module that stands out more than that of the previous model.

Regarding the display, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A56 with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel that boasts Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. This is a capable panel at least on paper. Its most impressive feature is its brightness. Rather than compete over peak brightness levels, Samsung has opted for a reliable maximum of 1,200 nits. Notably, the screen is flat.

Exynos Under the Hood (and Finally, AI)

Samsung Galaxy A56 5G

If you take a look under the hood, you’ll find an Exynos 1580 processor paired with 8 GB of RAM, which in the U.S. only come with 128 GB of internal storage. In other markets, a 256 GB option is also available.

However, the real highlight is the software. The Galaxy A56 5G launches with Android 15 and One UI 7, bringing AI features to a more affordable price point. Interestingly, this feature has previously only been available in high-end models.

In fact, the Galaxy A56 5G offers the most features, given that it’s the only model equipped with Best Face and Nightography capabilities. It shares some AI tools with its Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A26 5G counterparts, including an object eraser, AI-based filters, and Circle to Search. However, Samsung hasn’t provided any information about Galaxy AI, suggesting that the rollout of these AI features is still in its early stages and more focused on creativity. Moreover, these AI features appear to be more aligned with Google’s offerings rather than Samsung’s own.

Regarding battery life, Samsung has managed to retain a 5,000 mAh capacity despite a noticeable reduction in thickness and weight. The device supports fast charging through a 45 W power system, which will power Android 15 and One UI 7 for longer periods. This is important because Samsung has committed to providing “up to six generations of Android OS and One UI updates,” along with six years of security updates.

Triple Camera Basics

The Galaxy A56 5G features a triple camera setup that includes a main 50 MP sensor with optical image stabilization, a 12 MP wide lens, and a 5 MP macro lens. For selfies, there’s a 12 MP front camera.

The phone’s camera setup is straightforward and familiar, though it lacks a telephoto lens, which remains exclusive to high-end models. In addition to various AI editing options, the device also allows users to record videos in 10-bit HDR.

  • Samsung Galaxy A56 5G (8 GB RAM / 128 GB storage): $499.99
