Fans gearing up for the new Wicked movie this month noticed quite a glaring faux paux while checking out the dolls created by Mattel for the release. The mistake lies in the Wicked.com link included on the box, which does not actually provide more information about the movie. In fact, it’s actually a website full of porn.
Images of doll boxes with the unexpected Wicked.com link started making the rounds on social media over the weekend. Users spotted the link on packaging for dolls of Glinda, Elphaba, Fiyero, and Madame Morrible. According to Mattel’s website, the dolls are intended for children older than four years old.
Mattel confirmed the misstep in an emailed statement, telling us that it was made aware of a misprint on the packaging. The company aimed to direct customers to WickedMovie.com, the official website for the film, not a porn site.
“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children,” Mattel said. “Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”
Mattel’s Wicked.com Misprint
As for the real Wicked.com, it’s seeing its biggest surge of traffic in more than 10 years, according to Google Trends. The website is owned by Wicked Pictures, a three-decade old company dedicated to “producing quality parody porn movies.”
Wicked Pictures claims its content delivers Hollywood-style production quality and boasts some of the biggest female pornstars in the business, including Jessica Drake and Stormy Daniels, the latter of whom became a household name for sleeping with President-elect Donald Trump. Daniels was paid $130,000 to keep quiet about her encounter with Trump during the 2016 presidential election.
Starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as the Wicked Witch of the West, Universal Pictures’ Wicked will hit theaters on Nov. 22.
