In May 2023, Google introduced the Google Pixel Fold, its first foldable smartphone. It was quite a statement of intent for the format, but now comes the consolidation of that bet: We have the new Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold with us.
This second generation—with its own name, not “Pixel Fold 2”—has a larger screen and a revamped design—especially for the back camera module. In addition, it’s an attempt to make Gemini, Google’s AI model, the protagonist.

A Screen to Get Stuck Into
The format hasn’t changed, but the design has: This foldable is now noticeably larger but slightly narrower than its predecessor.
When folded, the external display of this smartphone is 6.3 inches like Pixel 9’s (up to 2,700 nits of maximum brightness), but when unfolded, the screen has a diagonal of 8 inches with a resolution of 2,076 x 2,152 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The maximum brightness of the internal display is somewhat lower but still remarkable, reaching 1,600 nits.
Even more striking is the thickness of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is 10.5 mm when folded but only 5.1 mm when unfolded.
On the back, we find a significant difference between this model and the first Google Pixel Fold: the camera module. In this smartphone, the cameras aren’t in a single “row” but in two. This module protrudes noticeably, something reasonable given the thinness above the smartphone once unfolded.
Regarding hardware, we have the Google Tensor G4 chip, which also powers the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. This device has 16 GB of RAM—giving room to Gemini—and up to 512 GB of storage.
The cameras lose some ground compared to the Pixel 9 Pro/XL, but they’re still promising. The main camera has a 48 MP sensor (f/1.7), the ultra-wide angle is 10.5 MP, and the telephoto is 10.8 MP, offering a 5x optical zoom.
