In June 2010, Apple lived through a nightmare when an employee left an iPhone 4 prototype at a bar. The device ended up in the hands of Gizmodo, which published all the details about the company’s new smartphone just days before its official launch. Now, history could be repeating itself.
New Macs on the horizon. Apple might be facing another reputational disaster. Rumors suggest the company is apparently preparing to launch new Macs with M4 chips. The expected models include the iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro, which could come with both basic and more powerful variants of this chip.
The MacBook Pro M4 has allegedly been leaked. While Apple hasn't even confirmed a launch event, a Russian YouTube channel published a video on Tuesday that sparked controversy. The video reportedly showcased the new MacBook Pro M4, with the YouTuber unboxing it and running performance tests.
More details have confirmed the leak. Hours later, a second video from another Russian YouTuber surfaced, again showing the MacBook Pro M4 unboxed. This video featured more information, including a screen displaying “November 2024” as the release date. The legitimacy of these models and videos remains unknown, but the devices appear to be consistent with expectations for the device.
Hundreds of units for sale? Even before the videos appeared, there were already reports of one of these laptops being purportedly sold in a private Facebook group. Photos of the box also surfaced, adding credibility to the leak. The release of yesterday’s video coincides with this private sale. An X user named ShrimpApplePro, known for frequently leaking Apple information, claimed to have seen an advertisement listing 200 units of this model for sale before the official launch.
Another iPhone 4 nightmare. If Apple confirms the alleged photos and videos, this would be the company’s worst product leak since the iPhone 4 incident in 2010. Given the lengths Apple takes to prevent leaks, the anticipated release of this model before its time is particularly striking.
Apple event on the horizon. Analysts, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, have suggested that Apple may hold an event to unveil the new models. However, the company could opt to bypass a formal presentation and instead issue press releases and update the Apple Store. Either way, these launches will reportedly occur by the end of October, with the new models—whatever they may be—likely available on Nov. 1.
