Apple has just launched the new Mac Studio (2025). The company announced it via a press release—without a dedicated event—alongside the new MacBook Air M4. The refresh introduces two distinct models.
These versions differ primarily in their chips: either an M4 Max or an M3 Ultra. While the design remains unchanged, performance has reached new heights.

More Power Than Ever
The Mac Pro may be gone, but the Mac Studio has proven to be a worthy replacement for users demanding top-tier performance. Apple’s third-generation Mac Studio continues the tradition of delivering the company’s most advanced chips and configurations.

The “base” model features the M4 Max chip, while the M3 Ultra model pushes performance even further.
Apple claims the Mac Studio M4 Max is up to 3.5 times faster than the M1 Max—though the comparison is somewhat outdated since the M1 Max debuted in 2021. Like the MacBook Pro M4 Max, this model starts with 36 GB of unified memory, expandable up to 128 GB. Storage ranges from 512 GB to 8 TB.
The Mac Studio M3 Ultra raises the bar with a 32-core CPU, an 80-core GPU variant, and a 32-core Neural Engine. Memory options range from 96 GB to 512 GB, while storage capacity starts at 1 TB and goes up to 16 TB.
These systems, especially with high unified memory configurations, are ideal for AI applications, particularly open source models. Apple has also introduced configuration options designed to maximize AI performance.
Additional memory and storage options significantly raise the price. The most powerful Mac Studio (2025) model costs $14,099—before adding Apple’s pre-installed software licenses like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro.
Additionally, Apple’s latest chips bring notable advancements. The GPUs in these SoCs feature dynamic caching, which reduces latency by storing frequently accessed data, and hardware-accelerated mesh shading, which optimizes graphics processing for smoother performance.
While the Mac Studio (2025) retains the design of its predecessor, it now includes Thunderbolt 5 USB-C ports. On the M4 Max model, the two front ports use USB 3 Gen 2, providing expanded connectivity options.
Mac Studio (2025) Pricing and Availability
The new Mac Studio (2025) is available for preorder on Apple’s website and arrives in stores on March 12.
- Mac Studio (M4 Max, 2025): from $1,999.
- Mac Studio (M3 Ultra, 2025): from $3,999.
