It’s been a busy summer for Francis Ford Coppola and his film Megalopolis. There have been controversial statements about the film’s lack of woke content, allegations of inappropriate behavior, and a controversial advertising campaign. Additionally, there have been reports of fake bad reviews generated by AI and publicists being dismissed. With just a few weeks away from the film’s premiere on Sept. 27, it seems that there may be more controversies to come.

One particular issue that seems somewhat under control for now is a new trailer that provides detailed insight into aspects of the film such as the setting, scenery, and cast. The trailer features a strong theatrical component along with scenes showcasing special effects. There even are some office sequences reminiscent of The Godfather after a sugar overdose.

After watching the trailer, it’s evident why the film has received criticism for its excessive aesthetic, lack of moderation, and scenes depicting Roman orgies that some argue turn bad taste into a piece of art. It appears that the focus of the film won’t be on its science fiction theme, as Coppola seems more intrigued by other aspects.

The movie boasts an impressive cast, including Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito, Dustin Hoffman, and Shia LaBeouf. It revolves around a woman who finds herself caught between the two most influential men in her life. On one side, her father, a powerful businessman with a traditional view of society. On the other, her lover, an architect who aims to revolutionize the city and turn it into a utopia designed to help its inhabitants recover from a catastrophic event that left a lasting mark.
