Coppola is so full of himself that he rated his latest film five stars days before its official release.

There’s been a lot of talk about Megalopolis for quite some time, even before we saw the first trailer two years ago. One of the reasons that the film has generated a lot of interest is because it’s seen as a “disaster foretold.” In addition to that, it’s directed by Francis Ford Coppola, a filmmaker known for taking on ambitious projects like Apocalypse Now and One from the Heart, which have resulted in spectacular failures and financial troubles for their producers. As a result, there’s a mix of curiosity and morbid fascination surrounding Megalopolis.

Coppola has recently made his megalomania even more evident on his Letterboxd account, a social media platform where users list and rate films. The director, not one to be modest, “liked” his own film and gave it five stars. Coppola, who joined Letterboxd at the end of 2023, has also created a couple of lists: one with films he highly recommends and another with productions that have inspired Megalopolis.

Letterboxd has recently become a widely used social media platform for established filmmakers. Directors and actors who’ve been active in it include Michael Mann, Rian Johnson, Christopher McQuarrie, Jaeden Martell, Ayo Edebiri, and Mike Flanagan. They use it to recommend films or share what they’re watching, but Coppola, one of the latest to join, is probably the first to rate his own films.

However, this isn’t the most controversial thing Coppola has ever done. No one saw it coming when he shared a Megalopolis trailer that compiled made-up negative reviews. Meanwhile, it wasn’t so surprising that some of the first real reviews weren’t praiseworthy either.

In any case, you can judge it for yourself on Sept. 27, when the movie is released in theaters.
