In this post, we’ll explain several ways to fix Google Discover when it’s not working properly. If you launch the app and find a blank page, it may be due to occasional bugs. Fortunately, it can be fixed, and you’ll be able to see personalized content again.

The following tips are presented in order of increasing complexity, starting with the simplest and least disruptive solution. The idea is for you to begin with the first suggestion, and if that doesn’t work, you can move on to the next one, and so forth.

Force Quit the App

If the app isn’t working properly, the best solution is to force quit it. This will completely shut down the app, allowing you to relaunch it from scratch. This method is often effective for resolving minor errors.

You can force quit the app by accessing your background apps and sliding the page away. However, the most effective way is through your phone’s Settings. Navigate to the Apps section to view the list of all installed apps. Find and click on the Google app, then select the Force Stop button. After that, you can relaunch the app.

Restart Your Phone

If relaunching the app doesn’t fix the issue, try restarting your phone. Simply turn off your device and wait a few seconds before turning it back on.

Sometimes, errors can occur at the operating system level and may persist during regular usage. Restarting the device reloads the operating system from scratch, which can eliminate minor errors.

Check Mobile Data

If Discover is still not working, you should check your Internet connection. There are two things you should do. First, confirm that your browser can access other websites. You should also ensure that your Wi-Fi or mobile data connectivity is functioning properly. Additionally, check that airplane mode isn’t turned on or that you don’t have poor signal on your phone.

Second, go to the Apps section in your phone’s Settings. From there, access the list of all installed apps, click on the Google app, and then select Data Usage. Make sure the option for Background Data is enabled so the app can stay connected even when you’re not actively using it.

Clear Data and Cache

In your Settings app, go to the Google app section. You’ll find options to clear the app’s cache and data. This process is similar to reinstalling the app but without going through the reinstallation process.

Clearing the cache and data won’t harm the app. It simply removes temporary files saved on your phone, which can help speed up loading times. The data will reload the next time you open the app. If any of the previously stored data was causing issues, clearing it could resolve those problems.

Update or Reinstall the Google App

If none of the previous tips fix the issue, there might be an internal problem with the Google app. First, it’s essential to check for updates. These updates often fix known bugs.

If updating doesn’t help, consider reinstalling the app. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the app can help resolve persistent bugs.

Use the App Without an Account

After reinstalling the app and/or clearing its data, you may be prompted to sign in with your Google account. To troubleshoot, try using the app without logging in to see if it works correctly. If the app crashes after you log in, it might indicate an issue with your account data.

Reset Discover Data

One final option is to reset your Discover news feed, which will erase all the data Google has collected about your interests. This can help resolve certain app problems.

To do this, open the app, tap on your profile picture, and go to your search history. There, select Delete and choose Delete all time. This action will erase all your search history, causing your Discover feed to reset. Keep in mind that this will also remove all customized suggestions, and you’ll need to use the app to “retrain” it based on your interests.
