ChatGPT's free version will be getting four new features with the arrival of GPT-4o. Previously, users had to pay to use them because they were exclusive to ChatGPT Plus. Now, once OpenAI finishes rolling out the newest version of its AI system, these features will be free for everyone.
The new features will take some time to arrive to the free version of ChatGPT, as OpenAI will roll out GPT-4o to paid users first and then to free users. Moreover, the company hasn’t yet set a date for integrating GPT-4o, only saying that will be rolling out the update gradually.

Much Better Than GPT-3.5
Until now, ChatGPT has used the GPT-3.5 AI engine, while GPT-4 has powered ChatGPT Plus, the paid version. However, after the rollout, both chatbots will feature GPT-4o. Implementing the newest AI engine in both software versions substantially improves what free users have had so far.
GPT-4o performs as well as GPT-4 Turbo for English text and code. It also has improved interactions with non-English text and is much better. You should know that the free version will be limited compared to the paid one, but it will undoubtedly be better than it was.

The big problem with the free version of ChatGPT is that GPT-3.5 developers only trained it with online information until the end of 2022. Unlike other AI systems, like those offered by Microsoft and Google, ChatGPT could not search for new data on the Internet.
However, when OpenAI updates ChatGPT with GPT-4o, it will be able to consult online information and offer you updated results in real-time. So, the chatbot's answers will no longer be based on data from two years ago, but will be derived from the information available on the Internet right now, a feature previously exclusive to paid ChatGPT Plus users.
Access to GPTs
GPTs are a service and a system for paid users that allows them to create customized versions of ChatGPT. It’s like a store where users can order GPTs that focus on specific features, themes, and skills.
Going forward, this feature will be available to free users, too. When OpenAI finally adds this new AI engine to the chatbot, users will be able find GPTs developed so far in the GPT Store.
The Arrival of Multimodal Capabilities
One of the most significant evolutionary leaps in GPT-4o is that it’s a multimodal product, meaning that it will be able to understand sound and images in addition to text. Moreover, the AI engine will be able to carry out these functions using low latency and during interactions in real-time.
With the introduction of GPT-4o, users can upload a photo or audio clip to ChatGPT and ask for information about it. Although users can already talk to the chatbot using their voice, the latency (or response time) will decrease from 5 seconds in GPT-4 to 0.32 seconds in the updated version. So now, everything will be much smoother.
