At Monday’s iPhone 16 launch event, Apple announced the anticipated update of its high-end AirPods Max headphones.
The 2024 model maintains the same circumaural headset format, although it introduces some small new features that make this a subtle update.

Advanced Computational Audio
The AirPods Max now come with a USB-C port, which is more suitable than the Lightning port, considering it’s no longer used in any of the AirPods models.
Like the previous model, the new AirPods Max are powered by computational audio, with refined adaptive equalization for more precise sound adjustment based on the fit and isolation of the ear cushions. The headphones continuously analyze the surroundings to adjust the level of noise cancellation in real time.
Improved Connectivity
One of the most significant updates is the transition from the Lightning connector to USB-C, which aligns with Apple’s current trend and improves compatibility with other devices. This change simplifies charging and introduces new connectivity possibilities, as users may have already noticed with its introduction to the iPhone 15 lineup in 2023.
Design and Color
The 2024 AirPods Max have practically the same design as the older model, except for the switch to USB-C port and the introduction of a new color scheme:

Smart Features and Compatibility
The new AirPods Max still feature one-touch activation, instant device switching, and the Share Audio function. The Digital Crown, also found on the Apple Watch and the Vision Pro, remains the primary control method, allowing you to adjust volume, change songs, answer calls, and activate Siri.
The new headphones are still seamlessly compatible with the Apple ecosystem, offering a hassle-free experience when used with iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices.
AirPods Max Price and Availability
The new AirPods Max will be available for purchase on Sept. 20 for $549.
Additionally, you can buy an AppleCare+ insurance for $59, which gets you up to two years of warranty and provides technical support.
