Installing the latest software updates enhances the security of your devices and allows you to benefit from the newest features. However, some users of Windows 11 24H2 (also known as Windows 11 2024) are encountering significant issues with this update.

After its initial rollout in the Dev Channel, Microsoft made Windows 11 24H2 available to all users in early October. This feature update includes various enhancements, such as artificial intelligence capabilities for Copilot+ PCs and improvements in wireless connectivity.

Windows 11 24H2: An Update with Several Issues

The release of Windows 11 24H2 has prompted a wave of complaints from some users because many features aren’t functioning as expected. Below, I’ll explain some of the most common problems that may arise after upgrading to the 24H2 version. However, it’s important to note that upgrading doesn’t necessarily mean that these issues will occur.

Disappearing mouse pointer. One notable drawback of the update is that the mouse pointer may vanish in Chromium-based apps like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. According to Windows Latest, this problem typically arises when users try to interact with text input fields, which can be quite frustrating.

System File Checker malfunction. The System File Checker is designed to scan Windows and restore missing files to resolve issues. Unfortunately, it can sometimes malfunction, getting stuck in a loop where it continuously attempts to repair files without success.

Persistent cache issues. After upgrading to Windows 11 24H2, users may notice the presence of an 8.63 GB upgrade cache. Although removing it should be straightforward if you use the free disk space feature, the tool still indicates that 8.63 GB needs to be freed up even when the files are deleted. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem.

Problems with anti-cheat systems. Easy Anti-Cheat, a solution designed to prevent cheating in games, is experiencing issues with the latest version of Windows 11. Users have reported encountering a blue screen error when trying to use this software. However, the problem doesn’t appear to be widespread, at least according to Microsoft.

Long installation times for Windows 11 24H2. The installation process for Windows 11 24H2 can be time-consuming. While this may not be classified as a major issue, users should prepare for a lengthy installation. According to PCWorld, this update typically takes around one hour to install, but it could take even longer, depending on your computer’s specs.

Moreover, the latest version of Windows 11 has additional issues that users should be aware of, many of which are listed on Microsoft’s Known Issues and Notifications page. For instance, some users are unable to install the update on Asus computers (X415KA and X515KA) due to detected blue screen errors.

In any case, it’s crucial to back up your system before installing any version of Windows or making significant changes to your operating system. A complete system image allows you to restore your system to a previous state if any issues arise after an update.
