reMarkable has just shown us that e-ink devices still have a lot of room for improvement. Its new reMarkable Paper Pro is the thinnest e-ink tablet with a color display on the market.

The design of this paper tablet celebrates minimalism. Its aesthetics are simple but very effective. The company is trying to make this device look like a simple piece of paper for reading, with a screen explicitly designed for this purpose.

The E-Ink Evolution Users Have Been Waiting for

Remarkable paper tablet

This paper tablet has an 11.8-inch screen in 4:3 format, a resolution equivalent to FullHD, and a pixel density of 229 pixels per inch. The color display doesn’t reflect light because it’s an e-ink panel.

reMarkable says it adapted and customized the Canvas Color panel, based on E Ink Gallery technology, specifically for this tablet.

The reMarkable Paper Pro allows you to write, cut, copy, and edit text. You can also create notes and draw in nine colors. The tablet combines these nine tints to display up to 50,000 colors on the screen.

Other e-ink tablets use filters to create colors. In the Canvas Color panel, colored ink particles move around to reproduce the tones. In low-light conditions, the reMarkable Paper Pro slightly illuminates the screen.

The latency for the reMarkable Paper Pro is 12 milliseconds, a 40% improvement over the reMarkable 2. The company also reduced the distance between the marking tip and the digital display to less than 1 millimeter.

The aluminum body weighs 1.16 pounds and is only 0.24 inches thick, making it the thinnest in its class.
