The phone now comes with up to 12 GB of RAM for the first time.
Additionally, the wide lens has been upgraded to a 48 MP sensor, similar to the one in the Pixel 9 Pro.
At Tuesday’s Made by Google 2024 event, Google introduced the standard Google Pixel 9 alongside the new Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL. This year, the Pixel 9 faces direct competition as the tech giant has decided to offer a more advanced small-screen phone. However, in terms of value, the Pixel 9 has many features that make it stand out on its own.
The Pixel 9 debuts the new Tensor G4 processor, the latest version of Android, and an increase in both RAM and the number of megapixels of its wide sensor.

More Brightness, More Memory, and More Battery
The Google Pixel 9, like the other models in the series, showcases a refreshed exterior design featuring a metallic finish and a smaller rear camera module. The device boasts a 6.24-inch Actua OLED panel with Full HD+ resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and up to 35% increased brightness compared to the previous generation.
Google has also minimized the phone’s bezels, resulting in a more compact device. Additionally, the Pixel 9 features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for enhanced durability and is IP68-certified against water and dust.
Inside, it comes with the new Google Tensor G4 processor, constructed using 4-nanometer technology. The processor promises a 20% faster browsing speed compared to the Tensor G3.
Alongside the new Google chipset, the Pixel 9 comes with 12 GB of RAM and a 20% increase in battery capacity to 4,600 mAh. According to Google, the Extreme Battery Saver mode can provide up to 100 hours of autonomy.
In the photography front, the Pixel 9 features improvements in the front and rear camera systems. The front camera is now 10.5 MP with autofocus, while the rear camera includes a 48 MP wide sensor with an f/1.7 aperture lens, similar to the Pro models.
Notably, the Pixel 9 retains the 50 MP main sensor, with the main difference from the Pixel 9 Pro being the absence of a telephoto lens, although there’s 8x digital zoom.
Among the photo features, there’s the new Add me function. It’ll be released in preview version with the Pixel 9. This option allows no one to be left out of the photo. You can take a group photo, switch photographers, and take another shot. Pixel combines both photos into one.
The Pixel 9 comes with Android 14, although will soon support Android 15, and promises up to seven years of system and security updates.
Google Pixel 9 Price and Availability
The new Google Pixel 9 is available in four colors: black, white, green, and pink, with an official starting price of $799.
