At Tuesday’s Made by Google 2024 event, Google officially announced the new Google Pixel 9 Pro. This year, Google has decided to offer two versions of its most advanced Pixel. The Pro model comes in two sizes: a “compact” Pixel 9 Pro and a Pixel 9 Pro XL, which is equivalent in screen size to the Pixel 8 Pro.
The new Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL showcase the best of what the manufacturer has to offer. The phones feature the new Google Tensor G4 chip manufactured using 4 nm technology, a Super Actua OLED screen that we expect to be among the best, and a memory upgrade of up to 16 GB.

Google’s New Phones Boast A Super Actua Display and A New Design
According to Google, the new Super Actua panels are the brightest panels on the market. The Pixel 9 Pro features two OLED displays with Full HD+ resolution in a 20:9 ratio and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The “compact” model has a size of 6.3 inches, while the XL model remains at 6.7 inches, maintaining the size that Google users are accustomed to.
This year, the Super Actua panel comes with 15% thinner bezels, allowing for a larger screen size within the same body as the Pixel 8. For protection, Google has included Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which promises twice the resistance compared to the Pixel 8.
Additionally, the Pixel 9 Pro has a redesigned rear camera module. Although it retains the horizontally elongated design, it no longer occupies the entire back of the phone. It features a metallic finish and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
Inside, the Pro phones house the new Google Tensor G4 processor, manufactured using 4 nm technology. This updated processor promises a 20% improvement in web browsing, 17% faster application launch times, and improved efficiency for photography and streaming content.
The early tests show that there isn’t a significant leap in power. To enhance performance, Google has increased the RAM to 16 GB. The company claims that this increase in memory, along with the Tensor G4, enables more efficient utilization of the latest artificial intelligence models.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL have 4,700 mAh and 5,060 mAh batteries, respectively. Both come with 30 W fast charging that promises to charge 70% in 30 minutes. The Pixel 9 Pro now features a new ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader for biometric security.
Seven Years of System Updates
The Pixel 9 Pro will debut Android 15, and Google promises that it’ll receive seven years of security and system updates.
As per artificial intelligence features, the Google Tensor G4 promises to be able to manage 45 tokens per second, making it the most advanced processor in this regard so far. This capability will serve to deliver Gemini Nano with greater precision.
Not only at the level of more advanced AI locally, the Pixel 9 Pro will also be the first with multimodal Gemini Live, being able to offer image or sound and receive AI responses.
Some of the AI-powered apps offered by these new terminals include an improved image editor, better video stabilization, the ability to make lists, and get summaries.
The Big Leap in Photography Is in the Front Camera
This year, the main upgrade in the Pixel 9 Pro is in the front camera. It has a new 42 MP front main sensor with 30% better sensitivity and a 103-degree viewing angle, perfect for group selfies.
On the back, the Pixel 9 Pro has a similar setup to the Pixel 8 Pro, with a triple camera featuring a 50 MP main sensor with an f/1.68 aperture lens, a 48 MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom, and a 48 MP wide lens.
In terms of video capabilities, the Pixel 9 Pro offers improved stability through artificial intelligence and supports recording up to 8K at 30 fps. Not only that, it’ll enable you to improve videos recorded in lower resolutions and upscale them to 8K using Video Boost.
One of the standout photographic features is the new Add me option, which will debut in the preview version with Pixel 9. This feature ensures that no one is left out of a photo. You can take a group photo, switch photographers, and take another photo. Pixel will then combine both photos.
Google Pixel 9 Pro Price and Availability
The new Google Pixel 9 Pro will come with a one-year subscription to Gemini Advanced for free for all buyers. The phone is available in four colors: black, white, gray, and pink.
The official prices of the Pixel 9 Pro are as follows:
- Google Pixel 9 Pro: $999
- Google Pixel 9 Pro XL: $1099
