I couldn't decide between my passion for writing and my need to keep up with the latest technology, so I combined both in a profession I enjoy every day. More than 20 years of playing with smartphones and more than ten years of writing about them, and since 2019, leaving my modest mark on Xataka. LinkedIN

Amid the whirlwind of gadgets at CES in Las Vegas, I tried two of Samsung’s latest laptops: the Galaxy Book5 Pro and Galaxy Book5 Pro 360. These models boast AI features designed to enhance the user experience. One standout feature is Vision AI.

The laptops are lightweight, not overly thick, and have excellent build quality with an aluminum body and a pleasant-to-use touch-sensitive screen. This panel allows the Galaxy Book5 range to integrate its own AI innovations. One I tried was Rodea for searching, a feature Samsung is adapting from its smartphones to laptops. It’s a practical tool for PCs.

Convertible or Classic: Your Choice, Both With Super AMOLED Touchscreens

Galaxy Book5 Pro

The two laptops share a similar design and user experience: a large size, high-quality aluminum finish, wedge-shaped body, and thinness, especially around the touchpad. The main difference is the hinge: the Galaxy Book5 Pro’s screen swivels to about 135 degrees, while the Galaxy Book5 Pro 360’s screen swivels fully to function as a giant Windows tablet.

The Super AMOLED panel is of high quality with sufficient brightness. It performs well in both bright and dark environments. During my tests in a dimly lit room, the blacks were especially impressive. The touch panel detail further enhances versatility, particularly for the Galaxy Book5 Pro 360.

Both laptops offer solid performance, with options for Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, Intel Arc integrated graphics, up to 32 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of SSD storage. They come with Windows 11 Home and Samsung’s suite of apps and services, which work seamlessly with Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung has also extended AI features to the Galaxy Book5’s touchscreens, adding tools like AI Select and Photo Remaster.

Samsung Galaxy AI: From Phones to Laptops

Galaxy Book5 Pro 360

AI systems aren’t new to computers, as Microsoft’s Copilot is already integrated into Windows. However, Samsung’s Galaxy AI provides unique tools for productivity:

  • AI Select: Adapted from Rodea for Android search, this feature freezes the screen when the AI icon is pressed. You can circle a section, and the browser will search for results related to the selected area.
  • Photo Remaster: This tool uses AI models to enhance the resolution and sharpness of images. It works with gallery images, but other folders can be added via settings.

Both tools perform well, delivering quality results. Samsung claims Galaxy AI primarily processes data locally, except for AI Select, which requires an internet connection for searches. Enhancing photos doesn’t need internet access.

The rescaling process takes a few seconds to half a minute, depending on the image. The Intel Core Ultra’s NPU supports these features, ensuring improved resolution and detail without overemphasizing contrast.

A Great Option for On-the-Go Work

The Galaxy Book5 Pro and Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 excel in multimedia consumption but are best suited for work and education. While pricing hasn’t been announced, these laptops are highly versatile. The Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 stands out as an excellent tool for writing and drawing, especially with the included S Pen stylus.

Both models are lightweight, offer good audio quality (better on the Pro), and have impressive battery life. Samsung claims the Galaxy Book5 Pro can last up to 25 hours of average use, with the Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 expected to achieve similar performance.

Pending a full review, it’s clear that the Galaxy Book5 line will appeal to those seeking an all-around laptop without sacrificing power or portability.

The Super AMOLED touchscreen is a major highlight, alongside fast charging and ample ports. While Galaxy AI may not be a game-changer compared to other laptops, Samsung is adding value with exclusive software.
