The Nintendo Switch 2 Will Have to Wait. The Company’s New Product Is… an Alarm Clock

Yes, it’s just a clock, and you’ll probably want it on your bedside table.

On Wednesday, Nintendo made a surprising hardware announcement. However, it wasn’t the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Instead, the company introduced the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, an alarm clock designed to wake users up with a video game-like experience.

The alarm clock will initially be available only to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, but this will change starting mid-January 2025, when it’ll be available for purchase to all.

Alarmo offers various scenes, music, and sound effects to choose from. The only thing users can personalize is the wake-up time, although the alarm clock isn’t as simple as it seems. It also includes a sensor that reacts to movements and plays sounds as the user moves.

The sound decreases as the user moves more and automatically stops when it detects that the user is awake and out of bed.

There are a total of 35 different alarms available from five classic Nintendo games. Each alarm has unique sounds and images, providing a variety of wake-up experiences. Connecting your Nintendo account to the clock allows you to download additional alarms from games such as Animal Crossing or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Alarmo can also track your sleep habits and provide sleep-related statistics. It features relaxing sounds to help people fall asleep and includes a large mute button for traditional use.

Nintendo’s new alarm clock will cost $99.99, and as mentioned earlier, the device is initially available exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online members in the U.S.
