Several weeks after its launch, the GeForce RTX 50 GPU series is still difficult to find in stores at prices that align with its official cost. The most accessible model at Nvidia’s suggested retail price is the GeForce RTX 5070, while other models are either significantly overpriced or completely unavailable.
Unsurprisingly, users hoping to purchase one of these GPUs are feeling disappointed. In light of this, the company has felt the need to address the situation.
Nvidia’s Response to Criticism
According to the graph below, Nvidia claims to have shipped twice as many GeForce RTX 50 GPUs as GeForce RTX 40 GPUs in the first five weeks. However, according to Tom’s Hardware and Reddit users, this comparison doesn’t accurately reflect the situation.

Tom’s Hardware reports that the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU was the only model available in the first five weeks after the series release. The model was launched on Oct. 12, 2022, while the RTX 4080 followed just five weeks later, on Nov. 16. However, most gamers don’t find the RTX 4090 a suitable solution, neither in terms of price or performance.
In contrast, in the first five weeks after the launch of the GeForce RTX 50 series, Nvidia released four graphics cards: RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070. The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs were launched on Jan. 30, 2025. The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti followed on Feb. 20, and the GeForce RTX 5070, on March 5.
Given this context, it’s reasonable to think that Nvidia’s comparison is unbalanced. This is true even if you consider the possibility that the company has included the RTX 4080 in its GeForce RTX 40 figures. Users will benefit if both availability and prices normalize soon.
