Apple Will Reportedly Launch the Thinnest iPhone Ever Before Focusing on the First Foldable iPhone. It Makes Sense

The non-Pro iPhones are key for Apple. Refreshing the standard phones makes more sense than ever.

Many expect Apple to make significant strides in 2025. The company recently released the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, which experts see as incremental updates without major design changes or breakthrough features. However, the anticipation is high for next year.

Rumors suggest Apple is working on the iPhone 17 Air, a device positioned between the Pro and standard versions. With this model, the company’s reported goal is boosting iPhone sales. This move is expected to take precedence over another rumored development for 2025: the first foldable iPhone.

Why a thinner iPhone? Design matters, at least according to Apple. Unlike the iPhone mini, which didn’t sell well, the non-Pro iPhones have always focused more on design than the Pro models. They come in bright colors, with attractive camera modules, especially in the iPhone 16, and they’re made of aluminum to be more affordable and lighter.

One complaint about the Pro models is the limited color options compared to the non-Pro models, which have a wider range of choices.

Introducing an iPhone as the thinnest in its history could be a selling point. However, the question remains whether this alone will boost sales in Apple’s mobile division.

The “budget” iPhone, the winning iPhone. According to Counterpoint data, the three best-selling smartphones in the world are iPhones. The iPhone 15 holds the top spot, with the Pro variants taking second and third place.

The data indicates that the standard iPhone 16 models are also outselling the iPhone 16 Pro, although interest seems to have somewhat declined in this generation. Nevertheless, entry-level iPhones are crucial for Apple, and displacing new features with these alternatives appears inevitable.

Foldable iPhones will have to wait. There have been rumors about the foldable iPhone for some time, but it hasn’t materialized yet. Expert Mark Gurman claims that Apple has several prototypes it doesn’t want, so you shouldn’t expect the company to launch a product in this segment anytime soon.

Despite its growth, which is relatively easy to achieve when starting from zero, the foldable market is still quite marginal. Specifically, foldable phones account for only 1.5% of the market, which is a rather low figure.
