Do you want to delete your Telegram account for good, so that the application removes all your data from its servers? Here’s how. You’ll be able to sign in later, but you’ll lose everything and must start from nothing.

There are two ways to do it. The first is giving you one month to delete your account, just like any other social network or application. But there is also a more direct and immediate method to delete your account forever.

Set a Self-Destruct Timer

The easiest way is to set a self-destruct timer for your account. To do this, open the Telegram options menu by tapping the three-stripe icon in the Android or desktop app, and tap the Settings option you have with the gear icon. In the iOS app, the Settings option is always visible and located at the bottom of the screen.

Once inside the Telegram settings, you will see several sections with distinct functions. Click on the Privacy and Security section to continue.

If you want to delete your Telegram account, what you should do here is select the 1-month option and stop using the application during that time. At the end of this month, all your Telegram data will be removed. This self-destruct option helps you to have a flexible grace period if you stop using one account for another or want to delete it.

When you choose the one-month-only option, you create a deletion process like any other application. When you want to delete an account from a social network, you are always told that you must go one month without logging in, but when you do it, the deletion process stops. Well, this is the same.

If You Don’t Want to Wait to Delete Your Account

Telegram also has a procedure to immediately delete your account. To do this, go to the website my.telegram.org/auth?to=delete. Once inside, the first step is to enter the phone number linked to your account and click Next. The phone number must be in international format with your country code. So, if you are in the United States, you must type +1 before the phone number.

The Telegram account connected to your phone will receive a confirmation code of your identity. Enter this code on the website and press the Sign In button to complete the verification of your identity and start the deletion process.

Now you have to click on the Delete my Account button that you will see at the bottom of the screen, explaining why you are leaving if you want to. Keep in mind that this is a last step, so you should not do it if you have any doubts about whether you want to keep your account or not. This is why it is better to use the first method and have a month to think about it.
