In this post, we break down what’s new in Grok 3, xAI’s newest AI model. This is the latest company’s effort in the competition for the best AI chatbot, and adds reasoning capabilities to Grok.

What Is Grok 3?

Grok is the name of the AI model developed by xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company. Like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s GPT, Grok powers a chatbot with the same name. To use it, you must have an account on Musk’s social media platform, X.

Grok 3 was launched in February 2025. As of publication, this is the latest version. It improves upon the features of Grok 2 and offers enhanced advantages.

Like other AI models, Grok is continuously evolving to keep pace in the fast-moving world of AI. Although Musk promised a big breakthrough with this new version, Grok 3 primarily aligns with its competitors’ capabilities.

Additionally, Grok 3 consists of a family of models, including Grok-3 and Grok-3 Mini. Grok-3 is a full-featured model, while Grok-3 Mini is a smaller version that balances speed and quality of response.

What’s New in Grok 3

The first major difference is that while Grok 2 was free for all users, Grok 3 will require a subscription. It’ll be available from its new official website and through X’s Premium+ subscription, which costs $40 per month.

Grok 3’s most significant improvement is its reasoning ability. This enables the AI model to provide more accurate answers by assessing different response options before presenting a final result.

This reasoning feature is optional. If you enable it, Grok 3 won’t disclose its reasoning processes, making it less transparent than its competition. However, it does allow for the generation of multiple-candidate answers.

Another key feature of xAI’s newest AI model is that it provides unfiltered responses, which may include politically incorrect content. This means there will be very little self-censorship, enabling users to ask nearly anything.

According to the company, Grok 3 outperformed several competing models in benchmark tests to measure AI capabilities. In non-reasoning tasks, it reportedly surpassed models such as GPT-4o, DeepSeek v4, and Gemini 2 Pro.

Grok 3 also demonstrates enhanced computational power, utilizing 10 times more computational resources than Grok 2. The latest AI model was trained on a powerful cluster of 100,000 Nvidia GPUs.

Additionally, Grok 3 employs DeepSearch, which is an AI-based search engine model. DeepSearch functions like a chatbot capable of reasoning. It can browse the Internet and generate detailed reports to provide in-depth information on the topics you inquire about.
