CES 2025 is underway, and leading tech manufacturers are unveiling products set to debut this year. One standout is Google, which introduced Gemini, its ChatGPT competitor, a few months ago.
Gemini is expanding to phones, becoming the default assistant and replacing the iconic Google Assistant, a long-standing feature on Android devices.
Google recently announced that its assistant is taking another leap forward. Google TV will soon integrate Gemini, the company’s AI model. This feature will enable users to control their TVs through voice commands, eliminating the need for a remote—provided the required permissions are granted.
Additionally, users will be able to ask questions, similar to the mobile version, through smart devices connected to Google Home.
Even when a TV is in ambient mode, it can serve as a management hub for all compatible home devices, controlled entirely via voice.
Google hasn’t shared official dates but says the first Gemini integrations with supported devices will roll out by the end of the year.
This marks a significant step for the company. Google TV, the evolution of Android TV, could gain an edge over Apple if Gemini integration launches first. Apple’s tvOS currently shows no signs of short-term AI system integration.
